Please join us for an artist talk by Vanessa Kwan.
My practice is pretty broad. As an artist I've been able to work on projects that exist in the gallery (sculptures and sometimes drawings), performances, permanent and temporary public artworks (including a sound piece, a fountain and a garden) and different forms of writing and publishing. I work most days at grunt gallery as the Program Director, and before that I've worked in creative capacities for Other Sights for Artists' Projects (where I'm still a curator / producer), the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Vancouver Queer Film Festival, Access Gallery and the Powell Street Festival. I'm very engaged in thinking through systems change, specifically from an artist-run and artist-centred approach, and I have also had a long-term commitment to supporting the work of BIPOC and queer artists since I started working in the arts in 2003. Collaboration is very central to my work, and I work almost exclusively in tandem with other artists / curators / humans.
