Award-winning dancer choreographer Nova Bhattacharya (Nova Dance) invites auditions for an opening invocation performance, presented alongside ! on July 14 and 15, 2023 as part of the Indian Summer Festival.

• This is open to all women identifying dancers.
• Students will enroll in CA 406: Contemporary Arts Practicum II (4 credits)

Deadline for the interest to participate is April 10 and the auditions are April 15 & 16, 2023, at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Goldcorp Centre for the Arts (149 W. Hastings St., Vancouver).

About the Show

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Woodward’s Cultural Programs, , and  are co-presenting ³§±¹Äå³óÄå! by .

³§±¹Äå³óÄå! is a celebration of dance as a revitalizing ritual that brings us closer together. It is an offering of movement, music, colours and sensations.

Created by award-winning Nova Bhattacharya, ³§±¹Äå³óÄå! embodies the transformative power of dance, expressing the uniqueness of the individual and the value of community. Dancers surrender themselves, sparking the imagination, conveying a range of thoughts and sensations through movement and creating rhythm with their entire beings.

The Body Choir is an opportunity for dancers of all forms to learn from professionals, to immerse in the rehearsal process, learn new techniques, cultural practices and to perform on the stage at the Vancouver Playhouse prior to the main performance of ³§±¹Äå³óÄå!

Course Details:

• Students will enroll in CA 406 (120 hours + 20 hrs coursework); 4 upper level credits; graded.
• Rehearsal and performance period will be covered by the practicum.
• Dancers will be gifted a 5 ½ minute solo from Nova Dance
• Rehearsals, tech and show times are not flexible: dancers must be available to attend.
• As part of the 120 hrs, there will be a studio showing of the solos in September 2023.
• Students should be in their 3rd or 4th year and need to have completed 60 credits.

Rough Rehearsal Schedule

• Must be Available: April 23, 30, May 7, 14, 28, June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 8, 9.
  
• Rehearsals will take place from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM during this period: 30 hours total.
• Performance & Tech: Vancouver Playhouse July 12 – 15, 2023.
