Frequent SCA Sessional Instructor has shared this call for participants for a new project that's also a "PAID work-integrated learning experience." Read on:
Choreographic Objects & Motion Capture Workshop | Call for Participation
We are seeking to recruit a group of university students with a dance or movement background who are interested in taking part in a series of two exploratory workshops where students will be guided in developing a 3D motion library to aid in digital choreographic development. Shannon Cuykendall, who will lead the workshop, will present some of her latest research on choreographic objects and invite students to take part in a series of choreographic tasks to build a motion library around these ideas.
This is a PAID work-integrated learning experience, and students will be paid for their participation and contribution to these workshops. In the workshops students will be primarily dancing with opportunities to work with motion capture technologies and record their movement in different ways (video, motion capture, animation, illustration and other ways). The content of the workshop series is still evolving, with possible interdisciplinary connections (e.g. such as working with animators) and a possible informal performance to conclude the workshops. If you are interested please email Shannon Cuykendall (scuykend@sfu.ca) for more information. There are some eligibility requirements for participation.
For those of you who don*t know Shannon每she has taught previously at the SCA (ballet technique and repertory). She is also an instructor at the School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT) and completed her PhD at SIAT in May 2022. More information about Shannon can be found .
Our first meeting will be held online at the end of October to discuss the workshops so please if you are interested. This is a very unique opportunity to help shape tools in conceptualization for dance choreography- and it comes with funding!! Hope you can join us!
