HYBRID MUSIC WORKSHOP
Western Front and 間眅埶AVs School for the Contemporary Arts welcome Montreal-based duo scapegoat to Vancouver. Composers are invited to devise a set-up from a fixed list of instruments, hardware and software and to compose a piece (or a series of sketches/experiments) for that set-up. However, rather than treat the setup as one in which electronic elements are merely added to a complement of acoustic instruments, the objective for this workshop is to consider how electronics and acoustic instruments might function integrally as a performative unit. Through a series of individual sessions, scapegoat and composer Mauricio Pauly will work with each participant to develop a process of implementing, troubleshooting, and ultimately learning to play the integrated setup in the context of the music written for the workshop.
Pieces for instruments and electronic accompaniment (e.g. fixed media, 3rd party control, etc) will not be considered in order to emphasize the hybrid nature of the ensemble.
To apply submit recordings (link) of 1 to 2 recent pieces and/or, if applicable, a score (link to download). Additionally, please include a short (50-100 words) text describing your proposal for the workshop.
Applications can be submitted .
SCHEDULE
- Application deadline: January 16, 2020
- Results announced: January 20, 2020
