"Learning Is the Greatest Pleasure"

Queer Nietzschean video artist Steve Reinke, who hails from Pembroke, Ontario, teaches at Northwestern University. Reinkes work is screened internationally, and his new video, An Arrow Pointing to a Hole, is playing at the New York Film Festival. We will be talking about his 2014 work Rib Gets in the Way: Final Thoughts, Series Three, and his recent foray into needlepoint.

"Qi and the Flowing Body in Media Arts"

Siying Duan is a SCA postdoctoral fellow working with Laura Marks, bringing traditional Chinese aesthetics in contact with contemporary media art and Western philosophy. She will show how Taoist philosophy can shed light on the embodied experience of media art.

"There is No Soundtrack"

Media artist and scholar Ming-Yuen S. Ma is Professor of Media Studies at Pitzer College and a member of the Claremont Colleges. He will be talking about anti-racist sonic strategies in video and installation art, drawing from his new book .
