Jason Proulx awarded 2021 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship

July 19, 2021

Congratulations to Social Psychology PhD student Jason Proulx for receiving the

Named after Canada's Major-General Georges P. Vanier, the  (Vanier CGS) program is designed to support world-class doctoral students who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health-related fields.

Proulx's PhD research project, 'Beyond the curriculum: A mixed-methods examination of classroom prosociality interventions on long-term generosity and happiness among youth,' aims to discover if and how school-based prosociality programs can boost long-term generosity and happiness in youth (aged 10 - 18).

He will focus his investigation on two real-world prosociality interventions: one which allows youth to practice and reflect on acts of charity and another which connects students with Elders in a long-term care facility over the school year.

Proulx will use large, methodologically rigorous experiments and community-engaged, qualitative methods to examine one of the biggest puzzles in the social sciences—human generosity—while helping communities across Canada leverage real-world interventions to foster youth character development and enrich student well-being.
