Samreen Kaur Ahuja

POST-BACC RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Samreen is currently pursuing her first year of a post-baccalaureate diploma in counseling and human development at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. Her research interests lie in the moral development of children and adolescents. She brings her passion for understanding human behavior to her work at Burnaby Family Life, where she takes care of preschool children. Her long-term goal is to obtain a Master of Arts in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, furthering her commitment to helping others navigate life's challenges.

Jacob Angeles

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Jacob is a fifth-year undergraduate student in the Psychology Honours program at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. His areas of research interest include early gesture and social development, prosocial behaviour and developmental disabilities. He works as a supervisor at the Canucks Autism Network and he volunteers at the Surrey Hospice Society. He hopes to complete graduate training in clinical psychology and use his experiences to support children and adolescents in his community. Outside of academia, he enjoys reading, music and hanging out with friends.

Nimra Askari

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Nimra is an undergraduate student at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Counselling and Human Development. Her research interests broadly include moral development, spirituality, cultural and forensic psychology and ACEs. Alongside her education, Nimra has worked as a Youth Peer Support Worker with Fraser Health and currently is a Peer Support Counsellor for the Naseeha Mental Health Helpline. Outside of school, she enjoys writing poetry, painting, exploring cafes and going on hikes.

Sheena Chahil

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Sheena is a fourth year undergraduate student pursuing her BA in Psychology. Her research interests include, parental influence on children's intervention success, neuropsychological intervention for TBIs, and children’s social and emotional wellbeing. Her future goals include, pursuing a master’s in clinical psychology and later on, being a clinical resource to children in need of neuropsychological support. Outside of academics, she enjoys volunteering in her community, reading, spending time on the beach, and watching Formula 1!

Anna Draper

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Anna is majoring in Health Science at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, and her research interests include prosocial behavior and developmental disabilities. She hopes to pursue a master’s in occupational therapy and to work with children to promote independence and learning through play. Outside of academics Anna has worked in pediatric rheumatology research, volunteers with adults with disabilities, and loves to try as many hobbies as possible, with her favorites being hiking, knitting, swimming, and learning to play the banjo! 

Alisa Goman

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Alisa is completing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV with a minor in Educational Psychology. Her research interests include cultural psychology, developmental psychology, and emotional development. Outside of academics, she has always found a way to be involved with people of all ages; including summer day camps for kids, teen advisory groups, and volunteering in an art gallery. Outside the lab, she loves hiking, reading, and spending time with family and friends!

Cahleigh Kalbfleisch

Research Assistant

Cahleigh is a recent graduate of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Her research interests include family attachment, social interactions, emotional wellbeing and meaning making. As she advances in her academic career, she seeks to impart the scientific-based tools to support others’ in learning to suffer well and flourish—that is, to make meaning of, and find peace in the diversity (and sometimes adversity) of the human experience. Outside of research, Cahleigh enjoys drawing, writing and connecting with her community!

Monika Leeder

Lab Manager

Monika is completing her second BA, majoring in Psychology. Her research interests include social-emotional and moral development, human agency and its development, and issues of belongingness. In the future, she hopes to utilize her knowledge by helping parents understand their children better (via research and/or practice). Outside the lab, she's a mom to a high-spirited 11-year-old and a volunteer with Sources, serving low-income seniors in her community.

Angel Leung

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Angel is an undergraduate student at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV completing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Counselling and Human Development. Her research interests broadly include prosocial behaviour, moral development, and cultural psychology. She's particularly interested in learning more about how moral pride is expressed and socialized across different cultural contexts and family dynamics, as well as if and how this moral emotion can be beneficial to foster stronger community connections. As for her future goals, she hopes to pursue a career where she can continue to provide support and guidance for post-secondary students of all levels. Outside of the lab, she likes to hang out with her friends and cook whatever her heart desires!

Liam McCloskey

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Liam is a fourth-year undergraduate honours student majoring in Psychology with a minor in Counselling and Human Development. His areas of research interests include studying the relationship between psychopathology and moral emotions, emotional development across the lifespan, and adolescent suicidality. After graduating he plans to pursue graduate training in clinical psychology. He currently volunteers at the Crisis Line and works as a Transitional Worker with Coast Mental Health. Outside of school his interests include photography, travelling, sim racing and enjoying all things music!

Emily Norman

Research Assistant

Emily is in her first year of the Professional Development Program, pursuing a second bachelor's degree in Education. Her research interests include prosocial behaviour, resilience and learning disabilities. After graduating from the Professional Development Program, Emily plans to become a social studies and English Secondary School teacher with the hopes of teaching Psychology courses. Outside of the lab she loves, dance, photography, spending time with family and working as a Program Leader, where she leads summer camps, as well as various dance and after school programs for children.

Rockcelle Oquendo

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Rockcelle is majoring in Biomedical Physiology at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. Her research interests include moral development and developmental disabilities, as well as positive and negative peer influence. She currently volunteers in the Emergency Department at the BC Children’s Hospital, as well as at Kids Help Phone as a Volunteer Crisis Responder. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career in medicine as an emergency physician or pediatrician to further support the children and people in her local community. Outside of school, she loves running in long-distance races and visiting new cafés!
