About Us

The ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Clinical Psychology Centre is a psychology training clinic that is part of the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Clinical Psychology Program. We are located on ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's Burnaby Campus, on the unceded Traditional Coast Salish Lands including the Tsleil-Waututh (sÉ™lÌ“ilwÌ“É™taʔɬ), Kwikwetlem (kÊ·ikʷəƛ̓əm), Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw) and Musqueam (xÊ·məθkÊ·É™yÌ“É™m) Nations. The CPC was established in 1986 and moved to its current location in in Saywell Hall in 2007. The CPC's mandate encompasses three main activities: provision of psychological services to clients in the Lower Mainland, training and education of clinical psychology students, and psychological research.

Psychological Services

The CPC is a state-of-the-art mental health clinic providing a wide range of services. We offer assessment and psychological treatment for adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families. Group therapy services are also offered on occasion. Services are provided by Masters or Doctoral-level graduate students in the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Clinical Psychology Program. Clinical Training

The CPC offers high quality training for clinical psychology graduate students in the provision of psychological services. Graduate student clinicians are supervised in every aspect of their work by the CPC DirectorsClinical Psychology Program faculty or community-based Clinical Associates of the CPC. Clinical supervisors are guided by and act in accordance with the Code of Conduct of the  and all relevant legislation. In addition to a commitment to clinical training through supervision, the CPC sponsors training workshops and colloquia on topics of interest to students and the greater mental health community.

Research Activities

In accordance with the scientist-practitioner model of the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Clinical Psychology Program, the CPC supports research on various psychological processes. Research proposals are submitted to the CPC by faculty or graduate students and are reviewed by the Director of the CPC as well as the University Research Ethics Board. A client's decision whether or not to participate in a particular research project at the CPC does not affect or disrupt the CPC's provision of psychological services to that client. Many clients participate in research as a way of making a valuable contribution to the advancement of knowledge about psychological issues.
