Current Research

We use a variety of approaches in our research to learn about children and their development. When possible, we involve children's parents, teachers, and peers in our research activities.

Our research studies are interview-based. We talk to children and families about their experiences to learn more about what factors have shaped who they are.

In some studies, we assess children's biological responses to social situations. Examining bio-markers (e.g., heart rate, cortisol in saliva) can provide insight into children's internal states--states that they may not be aware of consciously but that have an impact on their behaviour!

We engage children in a variety of interactive tasks to measure their kindness. For example, children may listen and respond to stories or play a game with a research assistant. We also engage parents in conversations with their children about their emotions to observe parental influence.
