Bachelor of Education as a Second Degree

Get all the information you need to apply for the Bachelor of Education (BEd) as a Second Degree. 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To declare a Bachelor of Education as a second degree, you must possess a Bachelor’s degree, meet ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s literacy and quantitative requirements and have been admitted to one of the following teacher education programs: 

  • Professional Development Program (PDP); 
  • Professional Linking Program (PLP); or
  • Alaska Highway Consortium on Teacher Education (AHCOTE)

TEACHER CERTIFICATION BRANCH REQUIREMENTS 

Note: You are responsible for ensuring that you meet the requirements for a Professional Teaching Certificate.

WRITING, QUANTITATIVE AND BREADTH REQUIREMENTS

If you are admitted to second degree, you are deemed to have met all of the breadth requirements, the lower-division W of the two required W courses, and one of the two required Q courses.

The remaining W and Q courses must be a minimum of 3 units each:

  • W course must be upper division and within the major; and 
  • Q course may be upper division or lower division.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS AND TRANSFER CREDITS

All courses applied towards the Bachelor of Education 2nd degree must be taken at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV.

Domestic Student Tuition (2024/25)

Normal and Course Challenge

  • $212.04 (basic - per unit)

Subject to estimated 2% fee increase each September.

Co-operative Education

  • $895.88 (per term)

International Student Tuition (2024/25)

Normal and Course Challenge

  • For students who entered in 2016/2017 or earlier: $1,005.71 (basic - per unit)
  • For students who entered in 2017/2018 and 2023/24: $1,145.58
  • For students who entered in 2024/25 or later: $1,167.61 (basic - per unit)

Co-operative Education

  • $895.88 (per term)

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV assesses the Student Services/Recreation-Athletics fee, the student activity fee and the U-Pass BC fee to all eligible students in each term of enrollment.

Mandatory Supplementary Course Fees

In addition to credit course fees, mandatory supplementary course fees may be assessed for individual courses in addition to basic tuition and are deemed necessary for successful completion of the course. Mandatory supplementary course fees cover additional costs associated with, for example, such items as field trip expenses or special costs/handling involved in distance education courses.

HOW TO APPLY

In January, an Education undergraduate advisor will host a BEd as a second degree advising session for each PDP, PLP and AHCOTE module. If you are interested in declaring a BEd as a second degree, you will submit the electronic declaration form following the advising session.
