Eligibility Criteria

We welcome generalist elementary school teachers (K–7, English and French), as well as secondary school teachers in the following subject areas:

  • Computing science
  • Core French
  • Dance
  • Drama
  • French immersion (all subjects)
  • Language arts
  • Mathematics
  • Music
  • Physical and health education
  • Science—biology, chemistry, physics and earth science
  • Social studies
  • Visual arts

Faculty Associates

Faculty associates (FAs) work closely with faculty members to develop module programs for individual and group instruction, as well as maintain effective liaison between ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's Faculty of Education and the public schools. FAs are generally seconded teachers from school districts, but they may also be retired teachers or other experienced educators.

  • Normally five years of demonstrated excellence in public school teaching
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
  • Willingness to examine and refine one's practice
  • Curriculum and instructional needs of the program
  • Sensitivity to equity issues
  • Work experience with adult learners (recommended)
  • Previous school associate experience (recommended)
  • Experience with computer technology (recommended)

Program Coordinators

The Program Coordinator in Professional Programs has both administrative and instructional responsibilities that include maintaining a cooperative liaison with school districts, assisting in specific teaching tasks, such as in-service workshops for school and faculty associates, as well as contributing to program modules as a member of the instructional team. Specific responsibilities include:

Program Design: working with colleagues and the Director in initiating and modifying program initiatives and designing professional development activities.

Instruction: assisting in organizing and providing workshops for school associates and new faculty associates, and make contributions to program modules as a member of the instructional team.

Student Supervision: when appropriate, work closely with faculty and school associates to determine student progress toward attainment of program standards.

Adjunct Faculty Associates

General Responsibilities

Adjunct Faculty Associates (Adjunct FAs) in the Preservice Professional Studies' teacher education programs at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV work closely with a small group of student teachers (maximum 4) in the supervision of their EDUC 405 certifying practicum. Adjunct FAs also maintain effective liaison between ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's Faculty of Education and the public schools. Adjunct FAs are generally non-seconded teachers, but they may also be retired teachers or other experienced educators.

Please note that Adjunct FAs may be required to drive considerable distances as the program uses placements throughout the lower mainland.

Supervision of Student Teachers

Supervising student teachers during the EDUC 405 certifying practicum is the shared responsibility of Adjunct Faculty Associates (Adjunct FA) and School Associates (SA). Adjunct FAs also help to clarify the responsibilities of the SA, who plays a pivotal role in the preparation of student teachers. Adjunct FAs are expected to visit schools regularly, deal with a range of challenging supervisory situations and develop open and collegial relationships with teachers and SAs.

Preservice Professional Studies is currently recruiting Adjunct Faculty Associates to supervise up to 4 student teachers during their EDUC 405 certifying practicum semester (September-December).

  • Supervision of student teachers will occur throughout the Lower Mainland. 
  • Access to a vehicle is necessary.
  • Travel reimbursement is $.70/km (home to schools and back).
  • Adjunct FAs are paid approximately $192 for a half day (up to 3.5 hours) and $384 (up to 7 hours) for a full day, to a maxiumum equivalent of four full days.
  • Adjunct FAs should allow up to 8 half-days per student teacher for supervision throughout the semester.
  • Adjunct FAs may also be required to attend Program Days on campus for training, in-service and workshops throughout the semester.

Friends of Simon Coordinator

The Faculty of Education invites applications for a part-time term coordinator that is passionate about supporting ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV students to grow their skills through tutoring school-aged children. Applicants should be current, former, or recently retired BC teachers. Working alongside another program coordinator, the responsibilities include hiring, training and supporting tutors and office assistants, liaising with partners and community, organizing and monitoring the program.
