Private awards and scholarships are generally awarded after the completion of the final semester (EDUC 405/406). Since student teachers are graded on a pass-withdraw scale, Preservice Professional Studies uses a combination of portfolio documentation and CGPA to determine students' standing for these awards and scholarships.
Please note: all award and scholarship totals are approximates only; the amounts and Terms of References are subject to change pending on approval.

How to Apply
Portfolio Guidelines
These private awards recognize outstanding students who have made a contribution to the faculty, university, or broader community. Private awards are generally awarded after the completion of the final semester (EDUC 405/406).
Eligible students must have a minimum 2.0 CGPA and meet each award's application requirements, including the submission of a portfolio. Student must also have been registered in a minimum of nine credits during the three terms prior to application.
Student are welcome to apply for more than one award, providing they satisfy each award's eligibility criteria.
Professional Development Program Awards of Excellence
Eligible students: PDP, PLP with CGPA 2.0+
Requirements: Portfolio and nomination form
Up to five awards, valued at $500 each, will be awarded annually in recognition of excellence in overall performance during the Professional Programs practica and coursework as well as a demonstrated potential for future professional growth.
The awards will be made by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee on the nomination of the Dean, Faculty of Education.
Dr. Maxwell A. Cameron Memorial Award (external award)
Eligible students: PDP with CGPA 2.0+
Requirements: Portfolio and nomination form
Two awards, valued at $1,000 each, will be granted annually (in any term) to a student who fulfills the following criteria:
- Enrolled in the Professional Development Program (PDP) in the Faculty of Education (one student in the elementary school stream of the program, and one student in the secondary school stream of the program);
- In good academic standing; and,
- Considered by the Dean of the Faculty of Education and the director of their module to be an outstanding student who has:
- Initiated, worked, or participated in a project that created positive change globally or in their local community, and/or
- been actively involved in issues related to poverty, LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, anti-racism, peace, global, or environmental issues.
The award will be granted by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee upon the recommendation of the Dean, Faculty of Education. Awards will be disbursed upon receipt of funds from donor.
Alysha Roussel and Fred Voight Memorial Award
Eligible students: PDP with CGPA 2.0+
Requirements: Portfolio, nomination form AND a letter outlining their volunteer service along with a letter of reference which verifies this information.
One award, valued at a minimum of $1,300, will be granted annually to a student who meets the following criteria:
- Enrolled in the Professional Development Program in the Faculty of Education;
- In good academic standing; and,
- Demonstrated a commitment to volunteerism and community service.
The award will be granted by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee upon the nomination of the Director, Professional Programs, Faculty of Education.
PRIVATE SCHOLARSHIPS
These private scholarships recognize outstanding students who have also achieved a high academic standing. Eligible students must have a minimum 3.5 CGPA and meet high scholarship's application requiremetns, including the submission of a portfolio.
Effective Summer 2017, enrolment in at least 12 units of standard graded courses at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV is required. A student holding an ongoing ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Entrance Scholarship is not eligible to be considered for any other University-administered scholarships until the entrance scholarship is fully paid out.
Carol and Gary Chapman Memorial Scholarship in Education
Eligible students: PDP, PLP with CGPA 3.50+
Requirements: Portfolio and nomination form
Two scholarships, valued at $3,100 each, will be awarded annually to an outstanding full-time student in the Faculty of Education’s Professional Development Program (PDP) or Professional Linking Program (PLP) based on academic merit and overall performance during the completion of the Professional Programs practica.
The scholarships will be administered by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee on Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries on the nomination of the Dean, Faculty of Education.
John Rosborough Memorial Scholarship in Education
Eligible Students: PDP, PLP with CGPA 3.50+
Requirements: Portfolio, nomination form AND letter and resume chronicling involvement and interest with information technology in education.
One scholarship valued at $1,600 will be awarded annually to an outstanding student in the Faculty of Education’s Professional Development Program (PDP) or Professional Linking Program (PLP) based on academic merit, overall performance during the completion of the Professional Programs practica and a demonstrated interest in some aspect of information technology in the field of education.
Applications must include:
- A letter and resume chronicling involvement and interest with information technology in education.
The scholarship will be administered by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee on the nomination of the Dean, Faculty of Education.
Scotiabank Student Scholarship in the Faculty of Education
Eligible students: PDP, PLP with CGPA 3.50+
Requirements: Portfolio and nomination form
This scholarship, valued at $3,200, will be granted annually to a student in the Professional Development Program (PDP) or Professional Linking Program (PLP) who exemplifies aspects of scholarly and professional excellence and community involvement. Community involvement may be service to the Faculty, the university community, or the community at large.
The scholarship will be administered by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee on Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries on the nomination of the Dean, Faculty of Education.
Madge Hogarth Scholarships in Education
Eligible students: PDP with CGPA 3.50+
Requirements: Portfolio and nomination form
This scholarship, valued at $1,500, will be awarded to the most promising student based on academic standing prior to entry into the Professional Development Program (PDP). Teaching performance may be considered.
The scholarship will be made by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee on the nomination of the Faculty of Education.
EVALUATION
A faculty committee reviews all nominations and verifies portfolio information with faculty associates and others who have worked with the applicant. The committee then submits its recommendations to the Dean, who forwards names of recommended candidates to the Financial Aid and Awards office. All awards are administered by the Senate Undergraduate Adjudication Awards Committee on Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries.
Students in Professional Programs are welcome and encouraged to apply for the Faculty of Education private awards and scholarships immediately following completion of the PDP or PLP.

HOW TO APPLY
- Students must meet the criteria for the awards being nominated for.
- Students may be nominated by faculty members, school associates or other student teachers. Nominations by faculty associates will not be accepted.
- Students must complete the nomination form.
- Submit a portfolio following the portfolio guidelines.
- Clearly indicate applicant name and address on the outside front cover of the portfolio.
- Students have the option of submitting an e-portfolio which details their teaching and learning from their program. E-portfolios should take no more than 15 minutes to read through and should be organized for easy navigation.
Awards and scholarships will be announced in June.

Criteria Used in Adjudicating Portfolios
- Organization (table of contents, an overview or "through line" to the portfolio, reflections that address all entries)
- Quality of reflective writing (evidence of dispositions, evidence of personal and professional growth, links between theory and practice)
