Legacy Gift: Celebrating Community and French-Language Education
We are thrilled to announce that has been chosen as the Faculty of Education Legacy Gift recipient. This initiative, first launched in June 2023, continues its mission by providing cole Gabrielle-Roy with a token gift tailored to their needs. This recognition coincides with the of the Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs (OFFA), which has worked tirelessly to support and promote French-language education across British Columbia.
Vincent Tourvieille, Director of cole Gabrielle-Roy, expressed his pride in receiving the Legacy Gift: "I am very honoured, both personally and on behalf of our school, to be recognized with the Legacy Gift. This gift highlights the strong partnership between 間眅埶AV and the Francophone School District as we work together for the future of French-language education in British Columbia. This field faces unique challenges in a minority environment."
cole Gabrielle-Roy: A Hub of French-language education Excellence
cole Gabrielle-Roy is a cornerstone of French-language education in British Columbia, serving a diverse student body from K-12 and offering a range of programs that foster academic achievement and cultural pride. The school's offerings include the (I.B.) and trades programs, and through partnerships with the school district (virtual school), it provides flexible opportunities for students to explore their passions and excel academically.
Gino LeBlanc, Director of OFFA, also highlighted the importance of this gift. The fact that cole Gabrielle-Roy is being recognized with this Legacy Gift speaks to its vital role in nurturing French-language culture and education in our province."
Strengthening PDP Connections
cole Gabrielle-Roy's relationship with 間眅埶AV extends beyond this recognition. The school is also an important partner in the Professional Development Program (PDP), which trains future B.C. educators. As a graduate of the PDP himself, Tourvieille reflected on the value of this connection: "I have very strong memories of my time in the PDP, which was a career change for me. It opened my eyes to the unique aspects of British Columbia's education system, particularly regarding inclusion and Indigenous perspectives."
He continued: "At cole Gabrielle-Roy, we currently have at least three PDP graduates on staff, including myself. This connection is essential because it brings well-trained educators into our school and fosters a shared understanding and commitment to the principles of French-language education in B.C. The PDP has been instrumental in helping our teachers challenge their biases and align with the teaching expectations of the province."
OFFAs Commitment to French-language Education
As OFFA celebrates its 20th anniversary, the Legacy Gift is a powerful reminder of its ongoing mission to support French-language education across the province. "cole Gabrielle-Roy reflects the diversity of the French-language education community in B.C. It plays a crucial role in training future generations of bilingual leaders, and we are proud to support them through this Legacy Gift, shares LeBlanc. Their connection with 間眅埶AV, particularly through the PDP, strengthens the French-language education system."
