The history of this Faculty goes back to 1965, but the history of the land on which our campuses are situated goes back to time immemorial. We are grateful to the Indigenous Knowledge Holders, Elders and Peoples who have been stewards of this land, but we are also acutely aware that our gratitude is insufficient. As educators, we must recognize the colonial structures and systems that served and still serve as agents of oppression; we are all called upon to take personal and collective responsibility for becoming active partners in Reconciliation and Resurgence for Indigenous Peoples.

One way that you can take personal responsibility is by participating in the Indigenous Education week, that culminates with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. It is a time to listen, to learn and to reflect: upon the culminative impact of our colonial past; upon the structures of oppression that are active today; and upon the actions that you can take towards reconciliation and resurgence for the future.
