Medal is best "show and tell" for teacher

June 30, 2018

Nicole Wittenberg, graduate of the Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Counselling and Human Development program, will receive the Lieutenant Governors Silver Medal at this months convocation ceremony. The award is given annually to students who have excelled in their studies and who have contributed to the life of their post-secondary institution or their community.

This is a pleasant surprise and I am honored to have been chosen, says Wittenberg. I have never won a medal before, as I wasnt into sports growing up, so this feels very fitting that my first medal ever received falls under education.

As an elementary school teacher with the Surrey School District, Wittenberg is dedicated to creating empathetic, hard-working and kind students. As well, she recognizes the importance of community engagement and being open to new possibilities.

In addition to her post-baccalaureate diploma, Wittenberg already holds a BA and a BEd with a minor in early learning.

Dont limit yourself, she says. Give yourself the opportunity to explore different areas of study and to change your mind should new interests arise. Learning is a journey and sometimes the path doesnt go as planned. Thats okay.

When she receives the award, Wittenberg knows the first thing shell do: Im pretty sure now I have the best show and tell. I cant wait to show my students.
