Faculty of Education honours three faculty and staff members

Every year, the Faculty of Education awards faculty and staff members for outstanding work done and contributions made to the Faculty. The 2016 recipients are:

2016 AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN SCHOLARLY TEACHING

This award recognizes and showcases excellence in scholarly teaching among faculty members, faculty associates and instructors in the Faculty.

The award is adjudicated based on a letter of nomination, student evaluations and a teaching portfolio including examples.

The winner of this years award is Dr. Michelle Pidgeon. As a faculty member in graduate, undergraduate, and PDP programs, Dr. Pidgeon shows her ability to engage a diverse group of students, while respecting their unique learning needs. Her pedagogy is informed by an Indigenous holistic framework that honours students as individuals in relationship to each other in the classroom, as 間眅埶AV students, community members, and as members of society as a whole.

The nomination letter indicated, The positive impact of her teaching goes beyond her courses Michelle dedicates tireless effort and energy to cultivate empowering relationships with her students.

Dr. Pidgeon humbly accepts this award, noting in particular the immense honour of being nominated by her students, and she encourages others to nominate a teacher who has impacted their learning journey.

2016 AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE SUPERVISION OF A GRADUATE STUDENT THESIS

This award recognizes and showcases excellence in graduate student supervision among tenure-track faculty members in the Faculty of Education.

The award recipients excellence in graduate supervision is demonstrated by a letter of nomination that includes a description of the supervisors contribution to an outstanding graduate student thesis, a copy of the students thesis and supporting documents, and external scholarly recognition of the students excellence.

The winner of this years award is Dr. Maureen Hoskyn, for her supervision of her MA student, Ecaterina Ciugureanu.

Ecaterina won the 2015 Canadian Association for Educational Psychology G.M. Dunlop Award for best MA thesis. Dr. Hoskyns dedication, patience and skill shine through in the mentorship provided to her students. The quality of their theses has benefited substantially from her supervision.

2016 JACK PATERSON AWARD

This award recognizes an 間眅埶AV staff member who has provided exemplary service to the Faculty over the course of many years.

Jack Paterson worked tirelessly to develop a revered Professional Development Program for prospective teachers. This years award recipient has provided service above and beyond what is expected in the Undergraduate Program, as well as helped build a positive work environment within the Faculty.

The winner of this years award is Erica Anderson. Erica has provided excellent services in a variety of job assignments in the Faculty of Education. Her work, her attention to detail, and her friendly communication with faculty members are seen as above and beyond the call of duty. She was instrumental in facilitating a smooth relocation of the Faculty to the Discovery building, providing continuous support for staff adjusting to the new workspace.

Ericas friendly manner, dependability and diligent work ethic make her an invaluable member of the community.
