The Indigenous Gathering Space is located on the traditional and unceded territories of the kÊ·ikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), SÉ™liL lwÌ“ É™taʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and XÊ·məθkÊ·É™yÌ“É™m (Musqueam) peoples, within the Faculty of Education at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Burnaby Campus.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
- The Indigenous Gathering Space was created to provide a welcoming gathering space for Indigenous students, staff, faculty, and community that supports our emotional, physical, spiritual, and intellectual well-being
- Provide a place for Faculty of Education Indigenous gatherings, learning opportunities, and celebrations
Please Help Us in Maintaining a Safe and Welcoming Space by Observing the Following:
- Please use the space with kindness and respect.
- Please clean up after yourself and leave the space as you found it.
- Please label any food that you are leaving in the fridge so that we know which program area it belongs to and when it may be expired.
- No alcohol in the Indigenous Gathering Space.
Please note that many gatherings occur in this space; we ask that you please respect the work that is taking place by entering only when you have booked the space or when there are drop-in hours.
This is a living document developed with the Indigenous Education Reconciliation Council (IERC) and will grow and evolve as we do.
BOOKING THE INDIGENOUS GATHERING SPACE
Priority will be given to Faculty of Education Indigenous students and Indigenous specific gatherings, learning opportunities, and celebrations hosted by IERC, OIE, and Program Areas.
If you have a request for use of the Gathering Space that falls outside the scope of the guiding principles, your request will be brought forward to IERC. If you are looking for a space to host a meeting that falls outside of the guiding principles shared above, please consider alternative spaces.
Booking Process
If you would like to book the Indigenous Gathering Space, please contact the Office of Indigenous Education, at least two weeks in advance. If your request falls outside of the scope of the guiding principles, please ensure you contact the Office of Indigenous Education at least three weeks in advance to allow for discussion at IERC.
