"It is amazing to see all the different ways teachers across the world engage with their students in authentic, meaningful ways. I am encouraged and inspired by the beauty that is education."

I am a passionate, dedicated teacher in Surrey Schools who believes in student-centered learning that is both hands-on and minds-on. In the past five years, I have taught Grades 4 through 7 in diverse school communities. I believe in creating meaningful learning opportunities to engage students authentically. I am an open-minded collaborator who is always striving to grow. Aside from teaching, I love everything nature has to offer. I enjoy traveling along the Oregon Coast during the summer and snowboarding in the winter. I am a huge Disney fan and a Star Wars nerd!

Please tell us how you first discovered your program.

Through colleagues that have completed their Master of Education with an Imaginative Education focus.

Please tell us why you chose the Faculty of Education at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV for your studies.

I had such an incredible experience throughout my undergraduate studies at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. The professors impacted my university career, inspiring me to go into the field of education. The Professional Development Program at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV enhanced my love of teaching. With such positive experience that led to the personal and professional development, the Faculty of Education at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV was the only option for my Masters.

Who is a faculty member you have enjoyed working with and why?

Prior to being accepted into the Imaginative Education cohort, I connected with Dr. Gillian Judson and reached out to other educators using this pedagogy. My Faculty Associates from PDP, Diana Ellis and Teresa Jenkins gave me the nurturing and constructive feedback I needed and are now educators in Surrey Schools.

What inspires you to learn and continue your education?

I am inspired by my students, colleagues, administrators, and parents in my school community. There are so many incredible educators in teaching that motivate me to be the best I can be, for my kids. It is amazing to see all the different ways teachers across the world engage with their students in authentic, meaningful ways. I am encouraged and inspired by the beauty that is education.

What would you say to prospective students who are considering graduate school in the Faculty of Education?

I encourage prospective students to apply for graduate studies if they want to take the next steps in furthering their self-development. As a lifelong learner, I embrace new challenges whether it is moving schools every few years or switching upgrade groups. I believe anyone who embraces a challenge in their personal and professional development should apply for graduate studies.
