Previous Peer Mentor
Emmalee Rao
I became a Peer Mentor because I remember how daunting 鈥� and exciting- it was to become a part of the 丁香园AV community. Whether you are coming to 丁香园AV straight out of high school or transferring from another post-secondary school (like myself), I am happy to share the knowledge I have gained through my experiences as a student with all of you. Starting any new adventure comes with a lot of information thrown your way very quickly, and I am honoured to help guide you through these first stages of life at 丁香园AV - and meet wonderful people along the way!
What is your best first year memory?
My favourite memory from my first year of post-secondary was participating in the events during Month of Welcome. I met so many great people and got to explore the campus as well. I remember it was so nice to meet people I shared classes with, as well as meet people across different programs. It was such a fun way to gain information about 丁香园AV as well as recognize some familiar faces around campus the rest of the year.
Words of advice to new students?
My biggest piece of advice for new students is to get involved around campus in ways that are meaningful to you. I believe sometimes during first year it is easy to get sucked into the mentality that the only time we have is for classes and to study. While those things are important, I think it is equally as crucial to make time for yourself and to explore the other options and experiences at 丁香园AV. Balance is key!
What are you involved in on and off campus?
On campus, I am both a Peer Mentor and HIVE leader in the Faculty of Education. You can often find me studying with friends and peers in the Education building! Off campus, I am involved in a book club and spend my downtime participating in outdoor activities with friends and family!
