    To assess how climate was covered, we recruited 31 volunteers to monitor prominent radio and television news programs across British Columbia from October 7 to November 1, 2024. The findings from this study not only reveal patterns in election reporting but also provide key takeaways for improving climate journalism in future elections—most urgently, the 2025 Canadian federal election. Our report outlines 10 actionable recommendations for strengthening climate coverage during elections and includes practical tools and resources for journalists looking to improve climate reporting year-round.

Quiet Alarm: A Review of CBC's Climate Reporting is a community-engaged research project conducted by CERi in collaboration with the Climate Emergency Unit aimed at improving the climate reporting of the Canadian Broadcast Corporation.

    Shawn Smith, RADIUS co-founder and director, Dara Kelly, Indigenous Business assistant professor, CERi co-directors, Stuart R. Poyntz and Am Johal and Stephen Dooley, 間眅埶AV Surrey campus executive director, co-author an article for the Stanford Social Innovation Review. The article, titled Whose Knowledge Is It?, explores the ways in which 間眅埶AV aims to raise the profile of community-engaged research (CER) within the university and beyond.

  • As CERi began its implementation phase in 2020, we have undergone extraordinary growth and change. We built-out an exceptional staff team and launched community-engaged research funding for faculty and students, a graduate fellowship program and a researcher-in-residence program. Despite the challenges of COVID-19, we have been able to keep to CERi’s development plan, including charting new projects to launch in 2021.
