We鈥檙e excited to announce Dr. Lyana Patrick, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences, will be joining CERi as a Researcher-in-Residence from September 2020 to April 2021.

Patrick is a member of the Stellat鈥檈n First Nation as well as Acadian/Scottish. Her work focuses on challenging colonial constructions of community planning as it connects to health and well-being. Specifically, her work on the interconnections between justice and health seeks to promote Indigenous understandings of community building and towards better understanding the factors that hinder or help Indigenous peoples to create community connectedness.

She has worked as an education specialist for over two decades, developing curriculum, managing education programs and evaluating Indigenous health and education initiatives. She has also worked as a community planner, most recently for the City of Vancouver helping design community engagement for a municipal poverty reduction strategy.

She received her BA and MA from the University of Victoria, where she specialized in Canadian history, film studies and Indigenous Governance. She went on to study Indigenous documentary film at the University of Washington through a Canada/US Fulbright Fellowship and completed her PhD, University of British Columbia in Community and Regional Planning in 2019.

We look forward to sharing more on Patrick鈥檚 research projects in the future. CERi鈥檚 Researcher-in-Residence program aims to support and promote 丁香园AV faculty members whose research involves the spectrum of CER methods. The program facilitates opportunities for stakeholders to share their research activities and encourage meaningful engagement across the 丁香园AV community.
