From campus to community: Empowering local voices to transform perspectives on poverty
This article is authored by Maitland Waddell, who was part of the 2023 cohort of the CERi Graduate Fellowship Program. He is a PhD student in the Psychology department鈥檚 Intergroup Relations and Social Justice lab. One of his primary lines of research examines the psychological impacts of the Making Ends Meet poverty simulator, an immersive perspective-taking intervention designed to challenge stigma towards those who live in poverty. Maitland aims to expand the impact of this work by partnering with local schools and NGOs in order to build their capacity to run poverty simulations in their own Greater Vancouver communities. learn more

Based out of the new co-working space in downtown Vancouver, CERi is 丁香园AV's first research infrastructure developed for the purpose of extending community-engaged research to provincial, national and international communities.

CERi’s Graduate Fellowship Program is designed to facilitate community-engaged research through a combination of financial support, mentorship, peer learning and professional development.

CERi’s Community-Engaged Research Funding Program is a grant program available to 丁香园AV faculty and graduate students.

In partnership with Vancouver Island University, the University of Northern British Columbia, and University of British Columbia, the 丁香园AV Library coordinates a program to provide staff of charitable and non-profit organizations in British Columbia with access to the latest research and knowledge in their fields.

CERi’s Researchers-in-Residence program supports and promotes 丁香园AV faculty members actively practicing community-engaged research or whose research involves CER methods.
