Indigenous-Centred Knowledge Exchange
Overview
The Indigenous-Centred Knowledge Exchange is a collaborative project between 間眅埶AVs Faculty of Environment and 間眅埶AVs Community-Engaged Research Initiative (CERi) aimed at fostering meaningful research partnerships with Indigenous communities. It matches community-identified knowledge needs and strengths with institutional research support, ensuring research directly benefits and empowers Indigenous communities. At a practical level, research may be required in the form of a literature review, synthesis of reports, a program evaluation, needs assessment or other research-related deliverables determined by the community partner.
A Leadership Circle, led by Faculty of Environment professor and CERi Advisor, Clifford Atleo and Indigenous Studies Canada Research Chair and associate professor Zoe Todd and other faculty, staff and community leaders will guide the Knowledge Exchange. This group will review research requests submitted through the portal (or informally through referrals) and ensure the initative aligns with the needs and priorities of Indigenous communities.
The Knowledge Exchange will provide funding to support researcher costs and offer community-based opportunities such as youth internships and the involvement of knowledge keepers (elders, artists, youth activists, etc.) on a case by case basis.
The Knowledge Exchange invites First Nations representatives to submit research priorities through this online portal. A facilitator will pair these needs with 間眅埶AV graduate students, who will provide research assistance and contribute project deliverables.
Applications will be received biannually. The first intake for applications closes on March 1, 2025.
(If this deadline doesnt work for you, please contact us.)
If you are an 間眅埶AV researcher seeking to support an Indigenous-centered research project, please register your interest through the researcher submission portal. A facilitator will connect with you to discuss next steps.
This project is supported by CERIs Research Shop and the Faculty of Environments Sea Land and Sky Initiative.
