Cait McKinney joins ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV School of Communication as a sexuality studies scholar, to share her knowledge and research about queer media histories. She is deeply rooted in understanding how people are different from each other and her research is motivated by the possibility of bringing these commitments together.

Professor Dal Yong Jin from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV School of Communication has been named Distinguished Professor and Graduate Chair. He is one of eight Distinguished Professors and this designation recognizes Professor Jin for his outstanding performance and achievements and celebrates their international pre-eminence in his field. As a Distinguished Professor, Jin will share his work with the public through events such as lectures, panels and presentations.

“I am honoured to be nominated for this award and chosen by my colleagues,” says Anderson. “I’m also happy that two others from the school have won it before me, professors Yuezhi Zhao and Peter Anderson. An added honour is that I knew Chris Dagg, and what a fine person he was.”

R. Murray Schafer, former professor in the School of Communication and acoustic ecologist who popularized the term "soundscape," died on August 14, 2021 following a struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 88.

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV professor Ellen Balka and UBC professor Corinne Hohl spent a decade of research on developing the technology, including extensive privacy and ethics reviews and pilot testing. ActionADE is now being implemented in nine Lower Mainland hospitals with more sites to come.

Knowledge Mobilizers is a story series from the Knowledge Mobilization Hub that highlights knowledge mobilization (KM) projects around the university. In a recent conversation with fake news researcher Ahmed Al-Rawi, a professor in ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s School of Communication and lead of The Disinformation Project, we discussed the motivation, strategies, and value of pushing through these challenges. For Al-Rawi he is motivated by a desire to “reach further, and be useful.”
