Welcome to the School of Communication!

Welcome to 間眅埶AV. Congratulations on your acceptance into the School of Communication. It is an exciting time to be joining our School where you will find a range of imaginative courses and a community to welcome you. I am delighted that you selected our program to continue your academic journey.

Once here, you will learn from our esteemed faculty about the cultures, histories, technologies, and ideologies of the media and communication infrastructures that shape our lives. We have many hands-on courses, including the new first-year CMNS 120: Creativity and Communication Across Media, which features content creation on social media platforms and introduces you to the foundations of media writing for an audience. At the third and fourth year, you can specialize in a number of topic pathways that include Media Production, Big Data and AI, Digital Policy and Platforms, Social Justice and Media Representation, and more.

As the Director of the School, I encourage you to make the most of your time with us. We all still feel the effects of the pandemic and lockdown even as things have returned to normal. Your success in this university journey will include not only hard work and dedication, but also forming important social ties with your classmates and instructors at the School of Communication. We encourage you to participate in the many Communication workshops, seminars and events available across the city, join the Communication Student Union, and sign up for a co-op to position to give yourself the best start for career success after graduation.

At 間眅埶AV, you will grow as a person; the world and your sense of it will expand. Take risks in your studies let your mind reflect on ideas it never has before. Be brave and creative! Your first year can be overwhelming at times, but remember people are around to help and we do not expect perfection, but only courage, perseverance, and curiosity. For our returning students who may be close to graduation welcome back! We have appreciated having you and encourage you to get involved in the School, as Ambassador, Peer Leader, Volunteer or Co-op student. Working alongside our students is one of our most treasured traditions.

Again, welcome to the School of Communication. I wish you the very best for a successful term and look forward to seeing you this September!
