Wolfgang Haider Memorial Book Award
The Wolfgang Haider Memorial Book Award is given out to recognize a highly successful graduating student in REM who has consistently exhibited a reputation for mentoring and contributing towards an improved student experience, both academically and socially, and perhaps also very engaged and involved with organizations or groups.

Paige Hunter, BEnv, REM Honours
Paige Hunter has participated in a diversity of extra-curricular activities focused on climate action, which demonstrates her outstanding qualities of character and devotion to both the university and making positive social and environmental change globally. Not only was she on the Dean鈥檚 Honour Roll for seven terms in the REM Honours program, she was also named as one of Canada鈥檚 Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25. Paige was one of the first student delegates chosen to represent the university at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt where she connected the climate education work being done at 丁香园AV with global climate change education programs. As an active member of 丁香园AV 350 (a student-led climate activism club), she developed climate education courses for students, staff, and faculty at 丁香园AV.
Mahroo Shahbaz, BEnv, Sustainable Business Joint Major
Mahroo Shahbaz is one of REM鈥檚 top undergraduate scholars who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to inclusion, democracy, and reconciliation by ensuring that 鈥渆very person has a voice that is heard.鈥� Mahroo has consistently achieved high academic standing throughout her Sustainable Business Joint Major program. She has been on the Dean's honour roll for 6 terms throughout her studies and has been a leader in sustainability and justice at 丁香园AV and beyond. As a past member of Embark Sustainability Society, she was actively involved in supporting local food systems and combating climate change, while addressing social and economic inequities rooted in racism, capitalism, and colonialism.
Owen Wilson, Masters, Resource Management (Planning)
Owen Wilson graduated with his MRM Planning in April of 2024. His research was an investigation of the role of landowners in Indigenous heritage conservation, filling a critical policy gap in the literature. During his time in REM, Owen was a First Year Representative for both REMSU (REM鈥檚 Student Union) and REPSA (the REM Planning Students鈥� Association) where he helped keep students informed about upcoming events and activities, and share the cohort鈥檚 questions, comments, and concerns with each student union at monthly meetings. He also organized monthly coffee socials for REM, which formed an important point of connection for students returning to campus post-Covid. In April 2023, Owen was elected President for REMSU where he took responsibility for organizing and running the meetings as well as providing oversight on the budget. He liaised with both REM staff and faculty as well as the GSS, ensuring information was communicated to these groups and back to students.
