The School of Resource and Environmental Management invites applications for the following Sessional Instructor positions:
Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU)
SD 281 Introduction to Sustainability
Location: Burnaby Campus
Appointment Dates: January 1 to April 30, 2025
Lecture: Friday, 10:30 am to 12:20 pm
Salary: $5,902.00 for 2 weekly contact hours
Course Description: Introduces the challenges and opportunities for developing sustainable communities and a sustainable world, through the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and alternative perspectives around sustainability (e.g. Indigenous, just sustainabilities etc.). Students will also learn from the practical experience of diverse experts and sustainability professionals. Conventional approaches to sustainable development will be critiqued to ensure considerations for equity and social justice. Highlights will be showcased from the Global North and Global South.
Qualifications:
- Graduate Degree, PhD preferred.
- Knowledge of the following topics:
- Challenges and opportunities for developing sustainable communities and a sustainable world, through the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
- An understanding of strengths and weaknesses of conventional approaches to development and of sustainable development;
- Emphasis on urban areas in the Global North and Global South
- Experience teaching undergraduate courses;
- Background in Sustainable Development, Community Planning, and/or International Development preferred
REM 431/631 Climate Change and Environmental Management
Location: Burnaby Campus
Appointment Dates: January 1 to April 30, 2025
Lectures: Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30 pm to 7:20 pm
Salary: $9,534.00 for 4 weekly contact hours
Course Description: Reviews how climate change is impacting multiple facets of earth system (e.g. atmosphere, oceans, and freshwater systems). Examines challenges faced by environmental managers as they attempt to mitigate or adapt to these changes.
Qualifications:
- A graduate degree in earth sciences evidenced by a current CV {curriculum vitae}; PhD degree is preferred, but a Master's degree with applied experience will be considered.
- Knowledge of climate change processes and how they impact at least two of the three areas:(earth science, biogeochemistry, cryospheric processes)
- Ability to connect these topics to applied research (e.g., geo-engineering, restoration of riparian systems, water resource management, hazards management).
- Evidence of teaching experience and excellence (i.e., student reviews, other references)
- Experience with REM courses considered an asset.
