Biography

While major climate regulations are usually implemented at the provincial, or even federal level, impacts are often most pronounced on the local scale. The Alberta coal-phase out is no exception to this; despite immense environmental benefits achieved from moving off of coal electricity generation, a lack of adequate planning and supports for local governments and workers in this transition process has negatively impacted the resiliency of these areas. My research examines how these transitions have directly impacted local governments in Alberta, as well as how local governments have had to engage in innovative and entrepreneurial activities in order to overcome the transition process and build resiliency in the face of senior government reform.
