Using H5P to Increase Student Engagement
What is H5P?
H5P is an open-source tool that enables users to create interactive and engaging online content. There are 50 + different interactive content types available, including video with interactive quizzes, memory games, image hotspots and others. Within the Centre for Educational Excellence (CEE), we have engineered a Canvas integrated solution for embedding your H5P content in your courses. We host the content locally and provide grade passback when your content is created as an assignment in Canvas.
Included below are some examples of H5P content types you can use within your courses. For more information on working with and using H5P, please visit our .
Course Presentation
The Course presentation content type consists of slides with pictures, text, multiple choice questions, fill in the blanks, drag and drop, audio and video clips and other types of interactions. Course presentations are an excellent alternative to Powerpoint presentations or text-based Canvas pages.
Course Presentations can be saved as an assignment and learner's results are recorded to the Canvas Gradebook.
Fill in the Blanks:
Fill in the blanks test the learner's ability to reproduce facts and to understand context in order to correctly replace missing pieces of text. Fill in the blanks can be used in Question sets, Interactive videos or Course presentations.
This content type can be saved as an assignment and learner's results are recorded to the Canvas Gradebook.
Interactive Video:
Interactive videos are perfect when you already have a video clip that you want to enrich with interactive elements. You can add pictures, tables, text and links that the learner can interact with during playback. This example uses multiple choice questions. Bookmarks can be used to indicate a new topic within the video. Other interactions that can be added include, Fill in the Blanks, Drag and drop, Drag the Words, True/False Questions and Summaries to name a few.
Interactive videos can be saved as an assignment and learner's results are recorded to the Canvas Gradebook.
