Amanda Wallace

English as an Additional Language Consultant

Biography

As a language-acquisition specialist in CEE’s Curriculum & Instruction Division, I work with key stakeholders from across the university to identify, design, develop, and facilitate EAL support for Faculty, Instructors, and Teaching Assistants. This work includes institutional-level projects and initiatives for curriculum, program, course, and non-traditional learning activities. Before this role, I worked in ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s Centre for English Language Learning, Teaching and Research (CELLTR) as the liaison to the Faculty of Applied Science (FAS). In this position, I collaborated with colleagues in FAS to create and implement academic language and literacy development projects related to instructional design and multilingual student support. From 2016 to 2018, I was a Limited Term Lecturer in ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s Faculty of Education, teaching FALX99: Foundations of Academic Literacy.

Before coming to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV in 2016, I was an assistant teaching professor in the College English Program at Seoul National University in South Korea. I have more than 15 years of experience teaching courses in academic writing, communication, and content-based English as a Second Language (ESL) and English for Specific Purposes (ESP). I have also facilitated professional development seminars and workshops for faculty and students in international contexts.

Apart from my professional work, I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Languages, Cultures and Literacies program in the Faculty of Education at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. My research focuses on the internationalization of higher education, multilingualism, academic language and literacy, and interdisciplinary collaboration between applied linguists and content faculty to support multilingual student success.
