Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) in Field Archaeology
The Department of Archaeology at 間眅埶AV is seeking to fill one Assistant Professor (tenure track) position in Archaeology, with a preferred start date of January 1, 2025.
間眅埶AV is the number one comprehensive university in Canada and the Department of Archaeology at 間眅埶AV has a very high reputation and is widely recognized internationally, being recently placed within the top 20 in the world, the top 10 in North America, and 1st in Canada.
The Department has concentrated expertise in three areasLab-based archaeological sciences, First Nations Heritage and Resource Management, and Biological Anthropology, including Forensic sciences. We have a strong focus on high-quality lab, field and community-based research and engagement, as well as on experiential training of our students.
We seek an expert in human-environment interactions, with a PhD in Archaeology or related areas, with a strong field-based research program in the Pacific Northwest of North America. However, PhD candidates with solid indication of imminent completion may be hired at the rank of Instructor and will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor upon completion of the PhD. Preference will be given to candidates with an archaeological science focus or background, or with expertise in technological approaches/applications to archaeology.
The successful candidate is expected to bring complementary expertise to the existing ones in the Department to enhance our strength in research and training in Archaeology, as well as teaching in our Cultural Resource Management Certificate. We seek an expert with demonstrated or potential capacity to attract funding, supervise and mentor graduate students, and develop new undergraduate courses. The candidate is also expected to develop and teach the local British Columbia field school in our curriculum. Our normal teaching load is 4 courses/year.
Faculty salaries at 間眅埶AV are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the 間眅埶AV Faculty Association. A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this position is $104,700 to $133,322. Candidates for the Assistant Professor position must have a PhD; however, PhD candidates with a solid indication of imminent completion may be hired at the rank of Instructor and will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor upon completion of the PhD. A reasonable estimate for the salary range if the successful candidate will be starting as an Instructor is $98,340.

Assistant Professor in Bioarchaeology/Biological Anthropology (tenure-track)
The Department of Archaeology at 間眅埶AV is seeking to fill one Assistant Professor (tenure track) position in Bioarchaeology/Biological Anthropology, with a preferred start date of July 1, 2024.

The Department has concentrated expertise in three areas Lab-based archaeological sciences, First Nations Heritage and Resource Management, and Biological Anthropology, including Forensic sciences. We have a strong focus on high-quality lab-, field- and community-based research and engagement, as well as on experiential training of our students.
We seek a human skeletal biologist, with a PhD in Anthropology, Archaeology or related areas, with expertise and a strong or promising research program in ancient health and disease, paleopathology or similar areas, including those which focus on biocultural, biomedical, or community-based approaches to the study of health and disease in the past.
The successful candidate is expected to bring complementary expertise to the existing ones in the Department to enhance our strength in research and training in Bioarchaeology/Biological Anthropology, as well as teaching in our Bioanthropology Certificate. We seek an expert with demonstrated or potential capacity to attract funding and supervise and mentor graduate students, develop new undergraduate courses, and teach most of the biological anthropology courses in our curriculum. Department of Geography
Assistant Professor of Climate Science Climate Change and Extreme Events
The Department of Geography at 間眅埶AV (間眅埶AV) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Climate Science. 間眅埶AV is one of British Columbia's leading research universities with campuses located on the unceded traditional territories of the slilwta优 (Tsleil-Waututh), S廎硬x戔w繳7mesh xwumixw (Squamish), x妢m庛k妢ym (Musqueam), q穩cy (Katzie), k妢ik妢m (Kwikwetlem), Qayqayt, Kwantlen, Semiahmoo and Tsawwassen peoples. The tentative start date for this position is July 15, 2024.
We seek candidates who have expertise in and seek to advance understanding of the physical processes driving extreme weather events and their evolution in a changing climate. Extreme events of particular interest include heavy rainfall, drought, heat waves, and fire weather; other areas are also welcome. Expertise in numerical modelling and/or machine-learning approaches will be considered an asset. This position will enhance or expand the current research and teaching strengths of the Department of Geography in Climate and Earth System Science.
Candidates should have a PhD in climate or atmospheric science, physical geography, or a related discipline at the time of appointment. We seek candidates with demonstrated excellence in research, potential for excellence in teaching and supervision, and commitment to collegial service.
