間眅埶AV

Earth Science major, Environmental Geoscience

Earth sciences is a unique discipline that is a combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, statistics, and computer science. By combining these different sciences, we can form qualitative and quantitative observations which ultimately helps us gain a better understanding of the Earth.

Why did you choose to come to 間眅埶AV?

It was the most realistic option for me.

How would you describe your research or program to a family member?

My research is in a particular oil field known as Sundre. I am essentially making educated qualitative observations of cemented sedimentary rock buried ~2.5 km below the surface which are around 100 Ma. With these observations and methods, I will then try to entertain a logical depositional paleoenvironment and possibly why their enigmatic nature has resulted in an abundance of hydrocarbons.

What are you particularly enjoying about your studies/research at 間眅埶AV?

Friends made on this ongoing journey. Whether its research or working in a summer job, I enjoy the fact that everything I have learnt in EASC courses has real world applications.

Research has been quite enjoyable as I choose when I want to work, as well as my own goals that I want to complete in a certain timespan. Most importantly, I would say is that I get paid to learn.

What advice would you give a student who is considering getting involved in undergraduate research?

Go for it, its a great way to see if you enjoy solving problems in your field of study, to challenge yourself, and to learn something new.
