John Desnoyers-Stewart: Interactive Arts & Technology PhD student is finding new ways to connect people in virtual reality

SIAT PhD student John Desnoyers-Stewart is an inter簫dis簫ci簫pli簫nary artist-researcher and a pro簫fes簫sional engi簫neer connecting people in virtual reality.  

"I decided to do my PhD at 間眅埶AV because of the interdisciplinarity available through the Interactive Arts & Technology program."

His research at the is focused on devel簫op簫ing immer簫sive instal簫la簫tions to encour簫age new per簫spec簫tives on immer簫sive tech簫nol簫ogy and to better under簫stand its true poten簫tial and study its effects. He has exhib簫ited his multi-user mixed real簫ity instal簫la簫tions, including the project , at art gal簫leries and fes簫ti簫vals through簫out the Lower Mainland and in Regina, Canada. Through these instal簫la簫tions he hopes to encour簫age social con簫nec簫tion and col簫lab簫o簫ra簫tive cre簫ativ簫ity, explor簫ing pos簫i簫tive social appli簫ca簫tions of vir簫tual real簫ity and better under簫stand簫ing the expe簫ri簫ence of embody簫ing abstract bodies.
