The Faculty of Communication, Art, and Technology (FCAT) is home to a remarkable community of faculty, staff, and alumni. To honor the exceptional work of our members, we established the FCAT Excellence Awards. The FCAT Research Excellence Awards were launched in 2018, and in 2021, we expanded the awards to include Teaching, Staff, and Alumni categories, further recognizing the outstanding contributions of our community.

Nomination process

1. Prepare your supporting documentation (see criteria for each award category).
2. Complete the  survey and upload any supporting documentation by October 21^st, 2024.

Normally all awards are given out annually and ties may be considered. Award recipients will be notified two weeks prior to a Faculty-wide reception in early December.

The goal of the FCAT Equity, Community and Care (ECC) Award is to recognize the work of our faculty, staff, students and alumni doing work in the following areas within their schools/programs, in FCAT, at 丁香园AV, and/or in the wider community:

• Equity, diversity, access and inclusion
• Decolonization
• Indigenization
• Anti-racism
• Wellness
• Ethical Care
• Harm Reduction

FCAT ECC Award 鈥� this award recognizes the impactful and generous  work (seen and perhaps unseen) of individuals or teams of FCAT staff, faculty, students or alumni who have supported and advanced ECC initiatives through their service, teaching, research and/or contributions within FCAT or the wider community. Team sizes may vary, but at least 2 members of the team must have been in FCAT for at least two years. Nominations can be made by faculty, staff, students or alumni from any school or program within FCAT.

Required nomination package includes:

1. A nomination letter by one or more writers that introduces the candidate(s) to the committee and illustrates why the candidate is deserving of the award in accordance with the criteria in the award description.
   1. The letter is the strongest part of the submission package. It must be 250-300 words.
   2. Nomination writers are asked to focus on clear examples that highlight the candidate鈥檚 excellence and to avoid general statements about the candidate and their work.
2. 1-2 sources of supporting evidence that includes the impacted individual, group or community鈥檚 voice, position and/or point of view (e.g., letter of support, link to news story, public acknowledgment, etc.) Work done in or with community must be recognized by the group鈥檚 membership.

Adjudication committee: a committee will be chaired by the FCAT Faculty Advisor on Equity, Community and Care, and include the Indigenous Academic and Student Liaison and one staff or faculty member from each of FCAT鈥檚 schools and programs.
