A safety committee structure supports and guides programs at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. The committees are comprised of:
- A Central University Health and Safety Committee (CUHSC)
- Local Joint Health and Safety committees (LJHSC)
- Research-related safety committees (Radiation, Biosafety and Diving).
A variation has been issued by WorkSafeBC for the safety committee structure at the Burnaby, Vancouver and Surrey campuses.

Local Joint Health and Safety Committees
The Local Joint Health and Safety Committees (LJHSC) report to department heads. They assist in monitoring departmental safety programs, safety concerns raised by employees and students, make recommendations to department heads and promote safety communication.

A guidance document is available for safety committee members that outlines the mandate of safety committees, the roles and responsibilities of committee members, communication between CUHSC and the LJHSCs, and how safety concerns/issues are raised from the LJHSCs to CUHSC.
Central University Health and Safety Committee
The Central University Health and Safety Committee (CUHSC) reports to the Chief Safety Officer and addresses safety policies and safety issues arising in public areas. It also promotes communication and information sharing among local joint health and safety committees.

Safety inspections
The objective of inspections is to identify safety hazards in order for them to be mitigated/eliminated. The LJHSC are responsible for conducting inspections of their areas of responsibility.

- November 21, 2024 - Inspection report requesting an incident investigation report for incident involving a contracted employee.
- November 13, 2024 - Updated inspection report replacing IR #20240715090A & B, confirming compliance with orders pertaining to the Surrey Safety Committee.
- November 5, 2024 - Inspection report confirming compliance with the safety committee requirements and rescinding the order issued.
- November 4, 2024 - Inspection report confirming receipt and acceptance of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's Bullying & Harassment training, policy and procedures.
- October 15, 2024 - Inspection report requesting ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's policies, procedures and training pertaining to bullying & harassment; Inspection report and order related to posting of safety committee meeting minutes.
- July 23, 2024 - Inspection report confirming acceptance of the incident investigation report for the biology roofing incident.
- June 5 & 25, 2024 - Inspection report requesting a copy of the incident investigation report for an incident in the Biology building caused by roofing work. The second report addresses an error made in the first report.
- March 11, 2024 - Inspection report confirming compliance with the order issued for the metal racks in the Facilities Services building.
- February 8, 2024 - Inspection report and order pertaning to a WorkSafeBC inspection performed of the Facilities Services building.
- February 7, 2024 - Inspection report outlining WSBC's request for a copy of the incident investigation report for a chemical odour incident outside the hazardous waste storage facility.
