¶¡ÏãÔ°AV is dedicated to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for everyone on campus, including contractors. The sections below outline ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's contractor safety management framework and the specific requirements for high-risk work activities. All contractors are required to thoroughly review and understand the information provided on this webpage.

Fire Safety

Fire Safety is regulated by each City and typically by the local Fire department along with the Code Standards. At ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, Fire Safety is crucial to ensure the health and safety of our staff, workers, contractors and community. 

Fire Safety is the assessment and planning to ensure work activities, projects and any changes to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's building have consider the protection and safe guarding of the community and occupants. 

Required Documentation:

  • Hot Work Permits
    •  A hot work permit is a part of a fire safety program that highlights the requirement from insurance, codes and municipal bylaw. Contractors who perform hot work are required to complete ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Contractor Safety Orientation and apply for a hot work permit from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. 
  • Temporary Construction Fire Safety Plan
    • As part of the Municpal's and Fire Chief's requirement, any changes to building occupany's fire safety plan, a Temporary Construction Fire Safety Plan must be developed, implemented and communicated to occupants. 
    • All Temporary Construction Fire Safety Plan must be provided at a minimum 2 week advance notice and approved by ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Facilities Services and ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Safety and Risk Service (srs_em@sfu.ca), pior to implementiation.
