Amanda Lastoria
Education
BA (¶¡ÏãÔ°AV), MA (Oxford Brookes University), PhD (¶¡ÏãÔ°AV)
Biography
Dr Amanda Lastoria is a Research Associate with the Canadian Institute for Studies in Publishing.
Dr Lastoria earned the first PhD in Publishing awarded by a North American university. Her doctoral research explored the industrial mediation of the text via the materiality, and material evolution, of the book. Using multiple editions of a single title – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – as a case study, Dr Lastoria documented, historicized and interrogated the ways in which the design and production values of the book multiply and diversify the markets and meanings of the text. Her project combines methods and tools of bibliography, book history, publishing history, literary theory and design theory.
Dr Lastoria also holds an MA in Publishing (Oxford Brookes University), a BA in French/Arts and Culture (¶¡ÏãÔ°AV), a Diploma in Arts Management (Birkbeck, University of London) and a Certificate in Liberal Arts (¶¡ÏãÔ°AV).
Amanda has more than a decade of experience in the publishing industry. She has worked in-house in book production (The Folio Society, Routledge, Taylor & Francis) and e-learning (Macmillan) in Oxford and London and as the business manager and associate publisher of a magazine (The Dance Current) in Toronto. She has also worked as a freelance copy-editor and proofreader for all of the above companies, as well as Random House UK, several project managers and independent authors. Amanda is currently Editor of the Lewis Carroll Review.
