The Rowland Lorimer Graduate Award for Excellence in Applied Research

Rowland (Rowly) Lorimer was the founder and, for its first two decades, Director of the Publishing Program at 間眅埶AV.

In the late 1980s, Rowly established the Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing at 間眅埶AV, and later, the Publishing Program, which has been active since 1995. He oversaw the establishment and growth of the Undergraduate Minor in Print and Digital Publishing and, since 1997, the continued development of the 間眅埶AV Publishing Workshops series.

Rowly was a past editor and publisher of the Canadian Journal of Communication, an honorary president of the Association for Canadian Studies, and a past president of the Canadian Association of Learned Journals. He has conducted extensive research into the Canadian publishing industry and mass media, including more than 20 commissioned studies on book, magazine, and scholarly journal publishing in Canada as well as extensive efforts to facilitate the transition of journal, book, and magazine publishers into online publishing.

This award, established to commemorate Rowly's retirement and celebrate his remarkable achievements in publishing and education, recognizes the graduate student with the very best applied research that offers real-world value to Canadian publishing.
