Ever since the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV community started working and studying from home, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Surrey's two buildings saw a dramatic decrease in the number of people coming onto campus. If you miss coming onto campus, there is a unique way for you to experience it—safely!—from the comfort of your own home.

In February 2021, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Surrey hosted the annual virtually due to COVID-19. The event was hosted on the platform Hopin and also had an augmented reality component using the platform ARitize. Now, the experience is available for all to try using their smartphone.

As you enter into the virtual SRYE atrium, you'll be able to hear a song sung by two members of the Kwantlen First Nation, Kevin Kelly and Michael Kelly-Gabriel, called "Ocean Views". After their song, Andrew Lee, a member of the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Pipe Band, played "Scotland the Brave" and "The Rowan Tree".

Take a listen to Michael Kelly-Gabriel share a description of the song "Ocean Views":

Enter into the experience!

Using the ARitize app:

You can download the ARitize app for your  or  device. Once you have the app, scan the QR code on the right and follow the instructions.

Note: Be sure that your phone volume is on (not on silent) so that you can hear the drumming, singing, and piping!

Watch the video:

If you are unable to use the app, you can still enjoy the unique experience by watching the 360° video linked above!

Special thanks to the team at for helping us put together such a fantastic and unique event! We'd also like to thank Kevin Kelly and Michael Kelly-Gabriel for sharing their song and story with us, as well as Andrew Lee for his superb piping.
