Facilities Services
Welcome to Facilities Services!
Surrey Facilities Services is responsible for the stewardship of lands and buildings that encompass more than 58000 square metres of campus space.
Facilities services encompass a broad range of essential functions dedicated to ensuring the efficient, safe, and comfortable operation of physical spaces on campus. From maintaining buildings and equipment to managing utilities, janitorial, and environmental sustainability initiatives, our goal is to create a secure, hygienic environment for the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Surrey community. We achieve this by meticulously planning and delivering services that not only promote sustainability but also bolster the well-being of our campus community.
Our primary services include:
Building & Grounds Maintenance
All buildings and grounds are kept in top condition, providing a safe, clean, and secure environment for students, faculty, and visitors. From routine maintenance to emergency repairs, the Facilties Services team works diligently to uphold the highest standards of campus care.
Building access
Building hours are as follows:
SRYC: 24/7 access to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV students (with ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV ID cards), staff and faculty. General public access from 7 am – 10 pm.
SRYE: 24/7 access to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV students (with ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV ID cards), staff and faculty. General public access from 7 am – 10 pm.
Placing a Service Request
For emergency work, i.e., power failure, safety hazard, potential damage to facility or equipment, please call X27549 to report. Emergency requests will be completed same-day whenever possible.
All other service requests for campus buildings should be made via email to scfacil@sfu.ca.
Kitchen and lunchrooms
For the SRYC building, there are lunchrooms located at SRYC 2807, SRYC 354, and SRYC 4004. Punch code access is required, contact your department admin for the code.
For the SRYE building, there are lunchrooms located at SRYE 3008 and SRYE 5050. Cardlock access is required for 5050, contact your department admin for the code.
It is the users’ responsibility to keep the kitchens clean. ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Surrey does not offer any food services. A food court and several restaurants are located in, or close to, the mall.
Temperature and adjustments
The HVAC system is computer controlled to maximize occupant comfort and minimize energy loads. Temperature concerns should be directed to Facilities.
Bulletin Boards
Please secure prior approval from Facilities Services for all material posted on campus bulletin boards. Contact scfacil@sfu.ca for more information. Any unapproved postings will be removed.
Custodial Services
Custodial services for the Surrey campus are managed by a dedicated contractor, ensuring the campus is consistently maintained to high standards of cleanliness for the entire community.
Routine Custodial Requests
Please submit a to have cleaning services performed on campus. Example of Routine Custodial Requests:
- Washroom cleaning
- Washroom supplies
- Recycling pickup
- Garbage removal
- Grafitti removal
- Office cleaning
- Classroom Chalk and Brushes
Urgent Custodial Requests
Urgent Custodial Requests are any occurrence which represents an imminent danger to health, or the potential for major damage to University property such as toilets overflowing or not flushing, slippery floors, sink drains plugged, ceiling leaks or requests to expedite the cleaning of any spill on a carpeted area.

Keys & ID Cards
Your key and ID card is necessary to ensure access to all authorized buildings and facilities on ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Surrey campus.
ID Cards
Your ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV photo ID is also your access card to offices, rooms, and labs. Visit the Registrar and Information Services counter to pick up your card. A valid piece of photo identification is required when you are picking up your ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV card.
Key Requests
Each faculty or staff office is individually keyed and keys are provided by Facilities. Report any lost or stolen keys or access cards to Facilities immediately.
Department heads or Administrative Assistants should request keys for staff members. Please allow 48 hours for completion. (At the beginning of a semester key requests may require longer to complete.)
Departing employees should return their keys to the Facilities Services office or the key drop box at the Security Desk on the mezzanine.
Lost & Found
Campus Public Safety keeps items up to 14 days. Every effort is made to contact the rightful owner where possible. Unclaimed items are donated to charity. Campus Public Safety reserves the right to dispose of items due to poor or unsafe condition. Items can be picked up at the security desks at SRYC and SRYE.
Mail Room Services
Campus Receiving and Mail Services (CRMS) provides sorting, distribution, and pick-up of all inter-departmental mail, and all standard Canada Post mail and parcels, and courier deliveries for domestic & international packages for the Surrey campus. We also send & receive inter-campus mail for ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Vancouver & ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Burnaby campuses.
Office Moves
Faculty and Staff office moves should be coordinated by your Administrative Assistant.
Please note: Contents of file cabinets and most office contents must be boxed prior to your move date. Moving boxes can be requested by contacting [scfacil@sfu.ca] Please ensure all recyclable materials are separated and prepared for disposal.
Parking & Bike Storage
Our campus offers convenient parking and secure bike storage options to accommodate all modes of transportation, ensuring easy access and peace of mind for students, faculty, and visitors.
Parking
Free parking at Central City is for mall patrons only. Valid, paid parking is only permitted on P3 (covered and open areas) at SRYC and is required for all ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV students, staff, and visitors.
NOTICE: The university strongly encourages the use of alternative modes of transportation whenever possible.

Bike Storage
SRYC: Bicycle racks for students, faculty and staff are located on level 1 of the Central City Mall parking garage. Staff or students with an ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV key card can bring it to the tower security desk at the north entrance of the mall. Tower security will program your key card to include access to the bike storage area.
SRYE: Bicycle storage cages are available in the SRYE parking garage for Faculty of Applied Science staff and students only. Please contact the SRYE FAS administrative office to request access to the bike cages.
Cyclists store their bicycles at their own risk.
Recycling & Waste Management
Informational questions should be directed to Facilities Services. For special work requests, i.e., file-cleaning projects, or missed pick-ups contact scfacil@sfu.ca for assistance.
Confidential materials can be placed in the grey Shred-It bins located in common areas. The Shred-It pick up is once a month. Cardboard boxes can also be recycled. Flatten and leave boxes beside a garbage can.

Storage
Facilities staff can assist faculty and staff who do not have an office at the Surrey campus with locking cabinets or access to a secure storage room. Filing cabinets are available for faculty and staff upon request to Facilities.
Lockers
Students can obtain a locker through ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Recreation services. As fees for one locker do not transfer between campuses, you will need to rent a separate locker at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Surrey even if you have a locker at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Burnaby.
