Internal Transfer (Current ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Students)
If you are already a student at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, you may be able to internally transfer into an applied sciences program. Below are the admission details for each of our schools.
Before you Apply
- Review admission requirements
- Check Deadlines
- Submit your application
Note that each school has their own admission requirements, application deadlines, and application forms (via Coursys). The details for each school are listed below. Ensure you follow the guidelines and apply within the applicable periods to be considered for internal transfer
Requirements
Current students at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV must apply via internal transfer to change their program to - Computing Science Major (CMPT), Software Systems Major (SOSY), CMPT Honours, CMPT Minor, Business Joint Major (BUS), Linguistics Joint Major, or Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Joint Major/Honours (MBB).
¶¡ÏãÔ°AV is based on a Computing Related Grade Point Average (CRGPA) along with consideration of an ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). The average for admission based on internal transfer is competitive. The school sets a competitive average each term. The CRGPA minimum average is 2.67 and the CGPA minimum average is 2.4 - the competitive averages are higher than these minimums.
In the case of repeated courses--at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV or elsewhere--the first attempt will be calculated in the CRGPA. If more than one application of the same student number is submitted, the most recently-dated application is evaluated. Please review all CMPT programs before submitting your ONE application. Duplicate applications will be closed without review.
The CRGPA is computed from ALL courses taken from the immediate lists below. Applicants must have completed at least two CMPT courses and one MACM course. At least two of all courses submitted must have been taken at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV:
- Computing list: (CMPT 120, 128, 130, or ENSC 151), (CMPT 125, 129 or 135), CMPT 225, (CMPT 275 or 276), CMPT 295*, (CMPT 201 or CMPT 300), CMPT 307
- Mathematics list: MACM 101**, (CMPT 210 or MACM 201), MACM 316
Notes:
- * ENSC major students may use ENSC 251 and ENSC 254 in place of CMPT 295. Enter your average grade between the two ENSC courses.
- ** ENSC major students may use ENSC 251 and ENSC 252 in place of MACM 101. Enter your average grade between the two ENSC courses.
- Students with CMPT 213 may appeal to use this course by attaching a letter to their application.
Important:
- Students who wish to apply to the Mathematics and Computing Science (MACM) Joint Major should do so through the Department of Mathematics.
- Students interested in the Geographic Information Science major (GIS) should contact the .
- The Fall 2024 P/F grading scheme has been added to the application form. Choose this option only if you are submitting a course with this notation.
INTERNAL TRANSFER APPLICATION PERIOD - Computing science
Application Period | Intake Term | Application Notification Date |
---|---|---|
September 2nd - October 1st | Spring | ¶¡ÏãÔ°AVs committee will notify by November 1st |
January 2nd - February 1st | Summer | ¶¡ÏãÔ°AVs committee will notify by March 1st |
May 2nd - June 1st | Fall | ¶¡ÏãÔ°AVs committee will notify by July 1st |
REQUIREMENTS
The qualification for internal transfer is calculated on the following criteria:
- CGPA, engineering related grade point average (ERGPA) at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and the course load during the semester prior to the application deadline. To qualify for the internal transfer, the candidate should have an overall CGPA of 2.5 or higher and no more than 5 repeated courses.
- In regards to the course load, we require the term prior to requesting the transfer to the School of Engineering Science, the student must have been enrolled in at least 12 ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Course load units and earned a term CGPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Further, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV students applying for admission to the School of Engineering Science are selected for admission on the basis of an engineering-related grade point average (ERGPA). Typically we expect the ERGPA to be as high as 2.8 and this is determined based on the number of seats available.
The ERGPA is calculated over all courses (including direct transfer credits to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV) the student has taken from this list, where a minimum of 3 courses from this list is required, such that:
- at least one mathematics course chosen from MATH150, MATH 151, MATH 152, MATH 232 (or 240), MACM101, MACM 201 and,
- at least one computing course chosen from CMPT 128 or 135 or (125 and 127), 225, and 275, or ENSC 151
- at least one physics courses chosen from PHYS120 (or 125 or 140), PHYS 121 (or 141), PHYS 221, PHYS 321, PHYS 365 and,
- additional courses may include: CHEM 121
All courses must be completed prior to application. For complete information, contact an Applied Sciences Advisor. If a specific course is repeated only the last attempt will be included in the average. However, equivalent courses will be counted (e.g. if a student takes both MATH 150 and MATH 151, both courses will be used in the ERGPA). ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV is competitive and the admission average is established on a per term basis, depending on the number of spaces available.
Students should familiarize themselves with the which, in practice, means that 2/3 of the required upper division course work must be completed whilst active in the Engineering program. Required courses completed while active in another program i.e. Science, BGSAS, BOT etc. do not count towards the residency requirement.
Internal transfer deadlines - Engineering Science
Students seeking transfer into Engineering must submit applications during the application period. The admissions committee wil review the student's transcript, evaluated prior semester records and reach it's decision before course enrollment.
