Safety is our priority at the Faculty of Applied Sciences. We aim to provide our students, faculty and staff with safe working conditions and practices when working on campus. For any urgent concerns regarding safety, please contact our Safety Operations Officer at fas_safety@sfu.ca.
Laboratory Inspections
Daily Lab Inspections
Lab members should keep an eye out for potential hazards in their lab space. Daily informal inspections should be conducted to ensure a safe environment is maintained in the lab. If you see something that appears unsafe, please report it to your supervisor or address it right away. Contact fas_safety@sfu.ca with any questions or if assistance is needed.
Monthly Lab Inspections
Monthly lab inspections must be completed by the PI or lab members for each lab space. It鈥檚 recommended that a different lab member inspect each month on rotation to get different perspectives. Inspection results should be recorded in the Monthly Inspection Checklist and posted visibly in the lab space. Download the checklist from this page.
Annual Lab Inspections
Annual lab inspections are required in all spaces on the 丁香园AV campus including lab spaces. Annual inspections are conducted by departmental staff, members of the local safety committees and EHS staff. Records of annual inspections are maintained by FAS and the local safety committee.
