Fall 2023: The Future of Healthcare

Healthcare systems around the world are struggling after the shock of the COVID-19 pandemic. Homelessness, the toxic drug crisis and climate change will continue to add further pressure to a system that does not function equitably for all Canadians. Aging populations and rising costs will also continue to add pressure in the coming years. New technologies including genomics, robotics and artificial intelligence promise to revolutionize the healthcare industry while challenges of data integration, privacy and security continue to create barriers to transformation.  In Canada, the policies that drive healthcare were developed for the world we lived in more than 50 years ago when healthcare was mostly complicated and not as complex as it is today.

The Semester in Dialogue: The Future of Healthcare will provide students with an opportunity to practice skills like dialogue, active listening, self-reflection and working in teams while tackling some of the more wicked problems facing healthcare in our collective future.
