Canada SCORES (in-person)
What does soccer, poetry and community involvement have in common? Canada SCORES!
Canada SCORES provides vulnerable children in grades 4-7 with free after-school programming combining soccer, poetry and service-learning. This program seeks to inspire urban youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world.
Children in the program meet 2-4 days a week for 90 minutes each day throughout the entire school year. They spend their time on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. In the fall semester, classroom activities are focused on poetry, creative writing, and self-expression. In the winter and spring semesters, participants apply these creative and communicative skills to a community project they research, design, and implement.
