¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's Emergency Management team is looking for Emergency Social Services (ESS) volunteers for our Burnaby campus.

As an ESS volunteer, you may be called upon during a disaster to assist with emergency response. In collaboration with the City of Burnaby, we will host two training sessions for those interested in volunteering.

As an ESS volunteer you will:

  • Assess those impacted by the emergency to evaluate their needs immediately following the event; complete documentation and ensure the appropriate supports are provided, such as shelter, food, and comfort.
  • Support the recovery of impacted individuals by providing referrals to partner agencies and other community-based assistance.
  • Assist during times of a smaller disaster and emergency while also helping people to be better prepared, better connected, and more resilient when emergencies happen.

Please note: There are 24 volunteer positions. Only those who can attend both training sessions will be qualified to volunteer.

  • July 17th Training Day (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM): The first day of training will cover an introduction to reception centres. You will learn the fundamentals for ESS responders who may be called upon to work in, or support the activities at a reception centre.
  • July 31st Training Day (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM): The second day of training will cover an introduction to group lodging. You will learn how to adapt facilities into shelter-style accommodation for people displaced from their homes during a disaster.

If you are interested in signing up as an ESS volunteer, please complete by June 19, 2024.
