Watch for equipment and construction crews at the areas listed below and always obey signs, traffic controls, and traffic control personnel. Please remember that speed limits are lower in construction zones.

UPCOMING Sep-Oct (2024) Tower Road Temporary Roadway Interruptions

When:

This project is anticipated to begin in September and continue through October 2024

Where:

The section of Tower Road between University Crescent and University Drive East

* Refer to the map

Work to be completed:

Inground service work will be completed. This will involve trenching across the south end of Tower Road and along the east side of the road. Construction vehicles, equipment and crew will be working along the road.

Expected interruptions:

1. Single lane alternating traffic, lane shifts, lane closures and detours can be expected along University Drive East and Tower Road.

2. Single lane traffic can be expected on University Drive East.

3. Sections of sidewalks along University Drive East and Tower Road will be closed. Pedestrian detour routes will be signed and traffic control personnel will assist pedestrians with detour information when on duty.

4. Traffic delays on Tower Road, University Drive East and South Campus Road can be expected during this project.

Comments

1. The above work is part of University Drive East Fire Hall 8 construction activity.

2. Transit bus routing and schedule is not anticipated to be impacted by the above.

Sept 2024 - February 2025 West Campus Road and Residence Parking Lot Temporary Interruptions

When:

September 2024 - February 2025

Where:

University Drive West, West Campus Road, the Student Residence Main Parking lot and, the service lane between the Dining Commons and Childcare Centre

Work to be completed:

Infrastructure work will be completed for upcoming building construction (Residence Phase 3)

Work will involve trenching along West Campus Road, through the Residence Main Parking lot and and into the laneway between the Dining Commons and Childcare Centre

Expected interruptions:

1. Single lane alternating traffic can be expected along West Campus Road and within the Residence Main Parking lot.

2. Sections of the Residence Main Parking lot will be closed during work activity.

3. Traffic pattern changes within the Residence Main Parking lot can be expected.

4. Cyclists will be detoured with traffic.

5. Pedestrians will be detoured around work sites. Traffic control persons will be on site to assist.

6. The traffic lights at the intersection of University Drive West and West Campus Road will not be in operation at times during the day while some of the work on West Campus Road at University Drive West is underway. Traffic control will be in place during these periods.

7. Traffic line ups and delays can be expected along University Drive West, West Campus Road and, to and from the Residence Main Parking lot.  

Comments

1. Transit bus routing and schedule is not anticipated to be impacted by the above.

2. To avoid delays, motorists may want to consider using alternate routing, such as Gaglardi Way and University Drive East.

Sep 2024 - Feb 2025 Arts Road Temporary Roadway and Walkway Interruption

When:

September 2024 - February 2025

Where:

The section of Arts Road between University Drive East and the vicinity of Strand Hall receiving lane.

Work to be completed:

Roadside curb work and pedestrian path upgrades.

Expected interruptions:

1. The southbound traffic lane will be closed between University Drive East and the vicinity of Strand Hall receiving lane. The southbound traffic lane will be closed using fencing.

2. The sidewalk will be closed. A delineated pedestrian detour route around the fencing will be in place.

3. Vehicles enroute along University Drive East to the North Parking lot will be detoured to enter the parking lot from East Campus Road.

4. Vehicles departing the North Parking lot west side will be directed to turn right (northbound) only.

5. Delivery vehicles, service vehicles, and other destined for Strand Hall receiving lane will be detoured to use the section of Arts Road at East Campus Road.  

Comments

1. The northbound traffic lane on Arts Road will be kept open for northbound traffic only.

2. Transit bus routing and schedule is not anticipated to be impacted by the above.

September 18th ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Terry Fox Run Temporary Roadway Interruption

When:

September 18th (2024)

Approximately 12:00pm (noon) - 2:00pm

Where:

Campus roads and pedestrian paths.

Refer to the map.

Event:

Annual ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Terry Fox Run & Walk on the Burnaby campus.

Expected interruptions:

1. Pedestrians will be asked to clear the way for participants along campus paths.

2. Traffic will be stopped on South Campus Road, Science Road, Nelson Way and Gaglardi Way while participants are crossing the road. Refer to the map for anticipated crossing locations.

3. Minimal delays can be anticipated while participants are running along paths and crossing roads.

August - October 2024 University Drive West Temporary Roadway Interruptions

THE FOLLOWING FORMS PART OF A CITY OF BURNABY PATHWAY UPGRADE BETWEEN UNIVERSITY DRIVE WEST AND BURNABY MOUNTAIN PARK

When:

Work is currently underway and may take until November 2024 to be completed

Where:

Work is happening along the path (trail) behind the transit stop on University Drive West through to Burnaby Mountain Park

Work to be completed:

The trail between Burnaby Mountain Park and University Drive West is being upgraded (widened and paved)

Expected interruptions:

1. Motorists can expect to be stopped along University Drive West and West Campus Road when construction vehicles are maneuvering into and out of the work site.

2. The pedestrian/cycling trail between the trail section behind the transit stop and Burnaby Mountain Park is closed. Alternate access between the road and park can be found further south along University Drive West.

3. Pedestrians and cyclists using the multi-use path along University Drive West will be stopped when construction vehicles are crossing the pathway.

August - September 2024 East Campus Road and Arts Road temporary interruption

14 August 2024 Crew were unable to complete all work on August 13th and will return at a later date.

Where:

The east end of Arts Road and the transit bus passenger drop-off stop on East Campus Road

Work to be completed:

Roadside water supply equipment will be replaced. This will involve crew, work vehicles and a crane truck being staged on the roads

Expected interruptions:

1. The eastbound traffic lane of Arts Road, on approach to East Campus Road, will be closed.

a) Single lane alternating traffic can be expected on Arts Road.

2. The transit bus passenger drop-off stop on East Campus Road, on approach to the bus loop, will be closed. Passengers will be dropped off in the loop during this interruption.

3. Pedestrians and cyclists will be detoured around the work activity.

March 2023 - Fall 2024 University Drive East Roadway Interruption

When:

March 2023 - Fall 2024

Where:

University Drive East, between Tower Road and Nelson Way. 

Refer to the map.

Work to be completed:

Construction of Burnaby Fire Department Fire Station 8. 

Expected interruptions:

1. The westbound right traffic lane will be closed during the project period to accommodate construction vehicles, equipment and related activity. The center westbound lane will remain open to traffic.

2. The Multi-Use Path (MUP) will be temporarily closed at times to accommodate construction activity. Pedestrians will be detoured during temporary closures of the MUP.

Comments

Watch for equipment, construction vehicles and crew working in the area.

Watch for temporary construction signs and flag person pedestrian & traffic control during the day when work activity is in progress.
