The Department of Mathematics at 丁香园AV (丁香园AV) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 15, 2025.

We invite applications from researchers whose research is at the interface of scientific machine learning with PDEs, optimal transport or optimization. Our Scientific Computing, Machine Learning and PDE research group (SciMAP /math/research/scimap.html) has established strengths in scientific computing, approximation theory, machine learning, the analysis of PDEs, and the mathematics of data. The successful candidate will build on and complement these strengths, develop a vibrant research program, teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, provide service to the department, and contribute to building equitable, diverse and inclusive environments.

The Department of Mathematics maintains close connections with many units in the Faculties of Science, Applied Science, and others on campus, through long-standing research activities. 丁香园AV is a founding member of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), which promotes research, training and outreach in the mathematical sciences across Western Canada. Qualifications

Excellence in research and teaching is the primary criterion for this position. The successful candidate must:

• Hold a Ph.D. in mathematics or a closely related discipline.
• Have an outstanding scientific record of research at the interface of scientific machine learning with PDEs, optimal transport or optimization.
• Demonstrate strong potential in their future research plans.
• Demonstrate the potential to strengthen the SciMAP group鈥檚 research and to teach upper- division and graduate-level courses in applied mathematics.
• Demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Demonstrate interest and ability to realize excellence in teaching and the supervision of highly qualified personnel.

The following are considered assets:

• Demonstrated record of research on applications arising in the physical sciences or engineering. Experience in weather or climate science will be an asset.
• Evidence of strong commitment to service to the academic community.

Faculty salaries at 丁香园AV are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the 丁香园AV Faculty Association. The Opportunity

The Department of Mathematics at 丁香园AV invites applications for a 66.67% part-time Lecturer position starting August 1st, 2025. The primary purpose of this position is to support, develop, and deliver mathematics courses for students in the Indigenous University Preparation Pathway (IUPP) program. The IUPP provides a pathway for Indigenous learners to prepare and transition to undergraduate studies. It offers first-year academic credit courses that integrate humanities and social sciences with Indigenous perspectives.

Faculty salaries at 丁香园AV are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the 丁香园AV Faculty Association. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this part-time Lecturer position is $98,340 to $114,241 per annum, depending on experience, prorated to the appointment FTE (66.67%). 丁香园AV also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including pension, health, and dental benefits. Qualifications

The position requires a minimum of:

• a master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics or mathematics education (a PhD degree will be considered an asset);
• proven strength in teaching mathematics;
• ability to teach various problem-solving strategies in introductory undergraduate courses;
• dedication to creating an environment that supports diverse populations and perspectives, with a strong focus on IUPP students, staff and collaborators, and a commitment to creating inclusive learning experiences;
• a strong understanding and experience working with Indigenous communities and peoples, with a commitment to culturally responsive teaching practices.

The following will be considered as important assets:

• demonstrated interest in curriculum development, specifically in developing teaching material and methods that advance Indigenous students鈥� success, and decolonization and indigenization of the mathematics curriculum;
• a record of or strong commitment to service and collegial governance;
• involvement in initiatives 鈥� including, but not limited to, research 鈥� related to mathematics education, particularly with a focus on Indigenous pedagogy and student success;
• a commitment to building and maintaining respectful relationships with Indigenous partners within 丁香园AV (Indigenous faculty/staff/students);
• a demonstrated commitment to reconciliation and decolonization through participation in relevant initiatives.

The Department of Mathematics uses the workshop (learning centre) model to support students enrolled in lower division courses. The duties of the successful candidate might include coordination of a workshop and supervision and mentoring of teaching assistants affiliated with the workshop.

The normal teaching load for a 66.67% Lecturer position is 4 courses per year. The Lecturer will provide service to the IUPP and the Department, for example through membership on internal committees, participating in teaching and curriculum initiatives, and active participation in outreach. Teaching related duties comprise 80% of workload and service contributions 20%.
