Masters Program Requirements

MA Requirements

  • Graduate thesis (18 units)
  • GEOG 600 and 601 (non-credit courses graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis)
  • 12 units of required and elective courses (3 courses), including:
    • GEOG 603 (5) - Theory and Methods for Human Geographers
    • Remaining units (7 units/two courses) can be drawn from the list of Geography graduate courses, or, with the Graduate Chair’s approval, from related graduate courses in other departments*
    • Students with deficiencies may be asked to complete additional course work
     
    *Students may also apply to take courses at participating institutions under the

MSc Requirements

  • Graduate thesis (18 units)
  • GEOG 600 and 601 (non-credit courses graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis)
  • 12 units of required and elective courses (3 courses), including:
    • GEOG 606 (5) - Research Design and Analytical Techniques in Physical Geography (with the supervisor’s consent, this can be replaced by another course)
    • Remaining units (7 units/two courses) can be drawn from the list of Geography graduate courses, or, with the Graduate Chair’s approval, from related graduate courses in other departments*
    • Students with deficiencies may be asked to complete additional course work
