About Us

Greetings! Welcome to the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Department of Geography

For more than 50 years, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s Geography Department has been a centre for the study of a diverse and changing world. Our work involves a combination of theory and research and examines environmental processes, human societies, and innovative technologies to better understand their interaction. The result is an interdisciplinary approach to some of the most pressing challenges posed by the modern world. You can find out more about the work we do by visiting our Research pages.

Located on the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Burnaby campus, our department is made up of:

  • 24 continuing research and teaching faculty, including:
    •     a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada
    •     a Canada Research Chair
    •     a Fellow of the Canadian Geographical Society
    •     Michael Smith Scholars
    •     ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV excellence in teaching awardees, and
    •     various other award holders
  • a rich network of Adjunct faculty and Associate members
  • an active group of Emeriti
  • more than 60 graduate students in the MA, MSc and PhD programs as well as post-docs who are collaborating on research projects with our faculty, and
  • approximately 500 undergraduate student majors enrolled in BA, BEnv and BSc programs
