Shaughn & Sharon Clements Travel Award in Earth Sciences
Shaughn and Sharon Clements
Shaughn Clements was born in Warwick, England, emigrating to Canada in 1946. He has lived quite a nomadic life, having attended 25 schools in three countries before graduating Grade 13 in Guelph, Ontario. He enrolled at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV in 1966 – taking a one-year break at the request of his previous employer to manage and reorganize one of the company departments – and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1971. After graduating, and while Sharon was finishing her master’s degree, he started working for ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV in Financial Services and continued working there until 2000, when health concerns made taking early retirement necessary.
Sharon Clements was born in Calgary, Alberta, and moved to New Westminster, BC, in 1952. She was a Charter Student at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1969 and entered the graduate program, receiving her Master of Science in 1974. As a Mature Student she entered the Spatial Information Systems (Geography) Program, receiving her diploma in 2000. Sharon began working for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in 1972 specializing in Plant Pathology and Entomology and continued working there until her retirement in 1997.
Shaughn & Sharon Clements Earth Sciences Field Trip Grant
The Shaughn & Sharon Clements Earth Sciences Field Trip Endowment Fund was established in 2014 with a generous gift from Shaughn & Sharon Clements and matching funds from the Department of Earth Sciences, the Faculty of Science and the Knowledge First Foundation Fund. The Shaughn & Sharon Clements Earth Sciences Field Trip Grant is intended to fully or partially fund the supplementary fees associated with participation in an Earth Sciences field trip or field school in British Columbia. The value and number of grants disbursed will be at the discretion of the Chair, Earth Sciences, based on the spending allocation generated from the Shaughn & Sharon Clements Earth Sciences Field Trip Endowment Fund and the total cost of the applicant’s field trip or field school, with the minimum being $50 and the maximum being determined by the fund income available, but which cannot exceed the supplementary fee for the field trip or field school. Multiple grants may be disbursed if endowment income permits.
You can help this support this grant by contributing to the endowment.
Applications:
Grants will be awarded each year to undergraduate Earth Sciences majors who fulfill the following criteria:
- registration in an Earth Sciences (EASC) course, or a course applied to the Earth Sciences Major with a field trip in British Columbia; and,
- in good academic standing.
Preference will be given to applicants in the following order of priority:
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada,
- Registration in an Earth Sciences (EASC) course that includes a field trip or field school that is required by majors in the program
The deadline(s) for application(s) each year is to be determined by the Chair, Earth Sciences. Application for this grant must include:
